The desktop client will add an Ethernet interface to your network list. Alternatively, you need to open the network preferences manually and continue the configuration.
After installing the desktop client, the "PdaNetMac" utility will be placed in your Applications folder. Opening it will display a status bar item which you can use to start the connection between your iPhone and Mac.
